“When I was a child, I wanted to be everything. A dancer, a painter, a writer, and Jean-Claude Van Damme’s wife. Also, like most young girls, I wanted to grow up to be a beautiful woman… and to have boobs one day!” says the still ambitious Iana Godnia with a laugh. From Uman, a town in Ukraine, to now living in New York and working with the top designers and magazines in fashion, Ms. Godnia’s sense of self radiates.
When asked how she faces rejection, “It gets easier with age. I assume I know something they don’t and their opinions are likely to change every five minutes.” In this model profile for Playing Fashion, see a side of Ms. Godnia that shows charm in sincerity and intelligence, along with her beauty secrets.
I START THE DAY BY READING IN THE MORNING
but whether or not I read depends on what book is sitting on my nightstand. Breakfast is my favorite meal in America because unlike breakfast in Ukraine, it's very similar to dessert, so I try not to miss it.
I’M VERY FOCUSED ON THE FIT OF MY CLOTHING
possibly from trying on too much clothes on! In terms of style I try to avoid “style traps”. You won’t see me wearing a black leather backpack, black leather jacket and black leather boots.
I LOVE DESIGNERS WHO MAKE BEAUTIFUL CLOTHES
using materials that look good and are very comfortable. Alaîa does an amazing job with that. So does Hermès, every time I work with them, I am shocked by how good everything looks and how nice the materials are.
FOCUS ON GETTING ENOUGH SLEEP EACH NIGHT
and eat on a regular schedule. I hide my skin from the sun when possible and keep some good sunscreen around. I also really like the Evian spray mist, they’re super refreshing and it’s fun to spray them in other people’s faces when they’re not expecting it!
MY ROUTINE BEFORE I LEAVE THE HOUSE
is: a good moisturizer (La Mer), brush my eyebrows (sometimes with a toothbrush because I can never find my actual brush), curl my lashes and use some lip balm. But if it's for a fun or exciting evening, I'll use mascara and some red lipstick. Beyond that, I leave makeup to the pros.
I UNWIND BY GOING OUTDOORS
preferably the beach, or just taking a walk. I’ve been to some beautiful spas though. George V in Paris is insane! But cooking can be relaxing too if you’re familiar with the kitchen you are in and of course movies work everywhere.
I COULD DO ANYTHING FOR
all the love or money in the world, so long as it doesn't involve eating uncooked spiders or cockroaches! Happiness is laughing with friends and family. To always have a goal and to be working toward it.
