Sojourner Morrell
From the horse-riding arena to the catwalk,
equestrian-turned-model Sojourner Morrell is the headliner whose paramount talent makes our hearts race.
ON THE TROT
“I remember shooting with Karl Lagerfeld. He was amazingly quick. A charming, funny, and highly intelligent man,” praises Sojourner Morrell the German designer heading fashion houses Chanel, Fendi and his own eponymous label. The half Swiss/half British model’s career launched three years ago as the face of the Prada resort lookbook followed by a Jil Sander campaign. Since then, Ms. Morrell has worked with all the big names in the industry strutting her stuff for Prada, Louis Vuitton and Tom Ford. Yet, being a champion in the modeling industry is not her only achievement in life. The laid-back lady is an established equestrian and the first woman accepted in the Spanish Riding School at age 17.

Here, we chill with the cool and chic Ms. Morrell, who shares with us her inspiration and aspiration as well as her love of horses and her idea of happiness.
I GREW UP IN UPSTATE NEW YORK
for the most part. I find it difficult to concretely define my “home”, because I lived abroad at quite a young age and my family is mostly in Europe, though I feel at times my mother knows me better than I know myself!
I NEVER HAD A CLEAR PROFESSION IN MIND
I mostly just wanted to ride horses! I love riding, especially dressage. I was riding professionally before modeling. It is very difficult to keep up, as horses are not very suitcase friendly.
MY ROLE MODEL
I would have to say that (Leonardo) da Vinci is someone I find truly inspiring. A man who did not narrow himself, but instead chose to explore the arts, science, and life as an entirety.
WORKING IN THE FASHION INDUSTRY
I have come to respect it more, although I wouldn't claim to understand it yet. Facing rejection is still difficult. Experience is the only way to move on. I think for me, the most out of comfort zone experience would have been working in Japan and having to channel “cute".
TO PREPARE FOR A SHOOT
I always have a good nights sleep! To me, beauty is not something fixed or even definable, but more of a feeling or experience. I never leave the house without my keys, phone, wallet, something to read, and a plan.
MY BEAUTY ROUTINE IS MINIMAL
I use moisturizer in the morning either by Hauschka or Weleda. Other than that I don't use makeup outside of work. I think a healthy diet is essential. I also don't smoke. I try and start my day slowly with a light session of yoga to help wake me up.
TIME OUT
I love to ski and swim. I just went to the Hammam at La Mosquée de Paris. It is always interesting to experience different ways of relaxing around the world!
I AM STILL TRYING TO FIGURE OUT MY LIFE'S GOAL
I would never take another's life for all the love, all the money in the world. I do know I want horses, sunshine, good food, and company - this is my idea of happiness!
