Read my lips. Red is officially the color of the season, as designers accessorize their cozy collections with lusciously painted lips brightening up the face and building an intense look of a confident woman. In Milan, Antonia Marras opted for blood red, while in New York, Zac Posen chose a bold red and Ralph Lauren a soft coral. Make-up artist of this story Kenny Leung suggests, “To achieve an intense red lip, I sometimes use a slightly darker red lip liner to draw around the lips and apply a slightly lighter shade to fill them up and blend them together to create more depth to the lips. They will look fuller and more dramatic.” .
For a cool look, Mr. Leung uses his all time favorite, MAC’s Ruby Woo, which comes out in a matte finish. To create a glossy finish, he likes to use YSL’s Rouge Volupte Shine in Rouge In Danger, which is a really intense and luminous red. To give your lips moisture like a lip balm and at the same time a natural healthy looking red, he chooses Clinique Chubby Stick Moisturizing Lip Colour Balm in Two Ton Tomato. “It does what it says literally!” he shares.
Something that goes well with red lips are big bold lashes. Mr. Leung recommends keeping the eye make up fairly simple for a day look. “Just tons of mascara!” he says. “Bobbi Brown Extreme Party Mascara is a must have in my kit and I like to use the tip of the mascara wand to bold up the lashes and you don’t have to do them perfectly to create a cool day time look.” For the evening, he likes to just add eyeliner - maybe with a flick - to create more dramatic eyes and add lip liner to create bolder and more defined red lips.
