“A lot of people say I look like my dad, but I'd like to think I get my good looks from my mama,” says model Nyasha Matanhodze. With covers for LOVE and British Vogue, campaigns for Louis Vuitton and Topshop as well as numerous shoots with photographers Craig McDean, Steven Meisel and Daniel Jackson, Matanhodze is definitely one of the brightest British modeling stars.
This season, after a brief break she took to finish her studies, the 2009 Elite Model Look winner stars in a campaign for Rihanna’s River Island collection. We met Nyasha in London for a shoot and asked her a few questions about her job, beauty and fitness tips.
MY HOMETOWN, Northampton is famous for its shoes. If you love a busy lifestyle, it's probably not for you, as it’s lovely and quiet, but it has a good history and lots to explore.
I WAS NOT SCOUTED so I have no experience personally with a talent scout. What influenced me to be a model was friends and family’s encouragement and watching America’s Next Top Model.
WHAT I LOVE ABOUT BEING A MODEL is the opportunities to travel and meet people from different walks of life and to understand other cultures. But Fashion is a tough job, always shoots six months ahead so often it’s freezing cold and you are modeling little Summer dresses.
MY BEAUTY SECRET is to drink a lot of water to keep hydrated and also try to sleep as much as I can. My favourite products are very simple: Dove Soap and Coco Butter, and all Avon products especially their face masks. I'd have to say I am strict when it comes to fitness. I do a lot running, skipping and cross training as well as Bikram yoga, which I love. Also I do try to eat healthily but I give myself the occasional treat.
I WANT to change someone's life for the better and to live my life to the fullest so that when I'm old, I have no regrets.
TRUE BEAUTY is within.
