Hirschy
This week's Model Profile star, Sophie Hirschfelder, a proud
Australian, tells Playing Fashion about her experience from walking for Balenciaga to beauty secrets to behind the scenes action.
“Life is beautiful,” says the Balenciaga and Versus model Sophie Hirschfelder, who could also be seen gracing the runways of Marc Jacobs, Moschino Cheap & Chic, Preen, and more. Known simply as Hirschy in the industry, the Australian grew up surrounded by music and wanted to sing, dance and act. That is until she she was scouted one day while shopping at Topshop on Oxford Street. Today, she is on the front line producing beautiful imagery with the best in the industry from Aaron de May to Eugene Souleiman to Steven Meisel.

Here, Hirschy tells Playing Fashion about the things in life that keep her beautiful.
I GREW UP IN MELBOURNE, AUSTRALIA.
It is a really special place that I will always call home. It is culturally diverse, forever changing and a wonderful place filled with creativity. I feel really lucky to come from such a magical city that I can always go back, feel happy and secure. My family and friends play a great part in my life. They inspire and motivate me. I look up to people who can express themselves freely and fearlessly.
I AM NOT A MORNING PERSON.
My alarm is on snooze for at least thirty minutes in advance. As a model I always have to be ready and prepared for new challenges. Getting close and personal with people I have just met can put me out of my comfort zone sometimes, though it's nice to be challenged, it makes things more interesting.
I DON’T REALLY GET READY FOR A PHOTO SHOOT.
It would be fair to say that people get me ready. When it comes to the actual shooting, you have to make sure that you have a clear idea about the concept and of what the team wants you to portray. You do have to put a lot of energy and feelings into what you are doing. The shooting isn't the hardest part; it is the lifestyle that is a great challenge. But to be the subject of someone’s creative vision is pretty cool.
I LOVE INDULGING.
I go to Sarah Chapman in London and Om Aroma or Tracie Martyn in New York. I enjoy massages and baths. I have recently discovered floating in sensory deprivation tanks. It's really amazing and chills you out.
SOMETHING I WON’T EVER FORGET
is the build up to the day of the Balenciaga show and the energy/adrenaline on the day. I felt very honored to be given this opportunity. I have attended fittings for a week before the show, so I spent a lot of time watching it all to come together. It was an incredible experience.
PEOPLE EITHER LIKE THE WAY YOU LOOK OR THEY DON’T.
I do not really get offended in terms of people criticizing my appearance because it is part of my job and you just can't take it personally… or else you will go crazy. You are either right for them… Or you aren't. Everyone has their own taste and vision and if you don't fall in their category of what is aesthetically pleasing then it is their opinion.
I AM ALL ABOUT COMFORT.
I love black because it is simple, powerful and easy. I love big shoulders, different textures in fabrics and lace. I buy most of my things in markets. I love second hand and vintage; there is something nice and sentimental about finding things in markets from different cities around the world.
WHAT THIS INDUSTRY HAS TAUGHT ME
is that it's really all about the skin. Plenty of water, supplements and good food. I love skincare… It’s my thing. A good moisturizer will let your skin breath and will make it fresh. I like Avene Cicalfate moisturiser, it's always in my bag. I use a Clarisonic and I really enjoy it. SK II collagen masks are amazing. I have just discovered the product range Zelens. It is purely natural, made from botanicals. Also, I really like Laura Mercier's camouflage concealer for places you feel you need it. I love oils. I never leave my house without a little bottle of lavender and my favorite ylang ylang Decleor oil with me. It smells really good.
HAPPINESS IS A CHOICE.
Life goal? Inner peace, always. For all the love, all the money in the world I would never diss my mates. My mother has taught me how to be a strong lady, or at least tried to. (laughs)
