ll hail the ingenious invention of denim in Italy, as designers embrace the sturdy cotton-twill textile by driving casual cool looks full speed on the runways. Is there anything as instaeasy and instacool as a pair of jeans? Just pull them on and pair it with a simple white shirt, like the iconic image of Jane Birkin, and voila! You look understated sexy and you rock! Whether it is light blue or an alluring shade of deep sea blue or anything in between, denim can be easily matched with virtually anything, creating a variety of looks depending on how it is styled from Western cowgirl to James Dean rebel to the glamorous Guess girl Claudia Schiffer in the unforgettable ad campaign. So, it doesn’t matter whether you are an artist, model off duty, student or mum, brace yourself for this season’s charming new cuts.
This spring, designers are offering denim jackets, shirts, overalls, jeans, and more. While J.Crew and Proenza Schouler’s good old denim jacket covers the chicness department, Balmain ignited the glam rock spirit by adding the lavish touch of bold gold garnishes to their denim pieces. However, the great steal of the season is a classic jean shirt worn casually as seen at Saint Laurent and Current/Elliot.
The sporty shell of a bomber jacket also made an impact this spring, as fashion pioneer Marc Jacobs and easy going J. Crew create smashing designs, which demand attention and authority. To make an impression, simply wear it old school with boxer shorts or boyfriend jeans.
And the more, the merrier! So, wear your denim from head to toe this season and don’t be scared to be too matched up. A few fashion houses bring back the all forgotten denim overalls. Chloe presented their variation on jumpsuits in contemporary cuts that are perfectly made to fit the body, while brands like Osman and Derek Lam cut their dresses slightly oversized and geometrically. These light airy dresses become our trusted buddy accompanying us through a breezy summer. Moreover, monochrome denim suits, as seen at Gucci, are a fashion statement that says ‘I am sharp, smart and strong’. To sizzle up your look, accessorize the suit and wear it with matching denim stilettos by Gianvito Rossi.
Ultimately, go fresh! Don’t be afraid to go for a more au natural look with your make up, when you wear the rugged fabric. Sleek shiny long hair and neutral makeup are all you need to channel this simple unfussy trend. Easy, peasy.
