Julija Step
Star of this week’s Model Profile, Julija Steponaviciute, shares with us her
memories of being invited to a hotel by a stranger and becoming a top model.
“True beauty is being yourself”
believes 20 year old model Julija Steponaviciute widely known in the fashion world just simply as Julija Step. Working with leading photographers of today from Steven Meisel and Craig McDean to Arthur Elgort, this Lithuanian beauty, who credits her parents for their good genes, is the long time face of MaxFactor.
I MOVED TO LONDON ONE YEAR AGO,
but I grew up in Vilnius, Lithuania, which is a great and unspoiled place to spend your childhood at. You can always find something to do, whether it's wandering around the Old Town or riding a bicycle. We have a really picturesque nature, for example, beaches on the Curonian Spit, countrysides with wooden saunas and crystal lakes – no skyscrapers can compare to that.
I WAS SCOUTED
buying chocolate in the city centre of Vilnius when I was fourteen years old. Someone invited me to a model casting in a hotel next door and I gave it a try. At that time I had no clue about fashion industry, but a couple of months later I signed with Baltic Model Management (which is my mother agency in Lithuania) and started traveling. Being a model is an amazing experience and I really appreciate it, even though sometimes I receive strange messages on Facebook, but I don't reply and that person simply stops writing to me. Places I travel to, people I work with and different characters I get to embody while working – that’s what I love about my job.
MY BEAUTY SECRET
is: try to sleep as much as possible, eat healthy and stay hydrated. It is also very important which products you use daily. My essentials are a good quality face cleanser and moisturiser. At the moment I am using Dermalogica products. I also always take Bioderma Crealine H2O with me, anywhere I travel.
I also exercise to stay fit and feel good. I am thinking about joining yoga classes too. I have never tried, but I have a feeling that I will love it.
EVERY JOB IS CHALLENGING
in a certain way – sometimes you have to work in such locations as Times Square, where a big crowd is watching you, sometimes your outfits are very uncomfortable or weather condition's tough. In the end, it only makes modelling more exciting. There's so many things I haven't done yet, so many places I haven't visited... I hope I can live a decent life, sharing happiness with my family and people around me. Everything has yet to come.
DIET?
I eat plenty of various vegetables, fruit, protein, certain milk products and seeds. I try to avoid bread products, processed foods and sugar, but, of course, I treat myself once in a while. Especially as I love cooking.
In this series of photographs Julija / Storm London is captured by her boyfriend, photographer Rokas Darulis. Styling by Kevin Kim; Make-up by Mai Kodama; Hair by Maki Tanaka; Casting Director: Megan McCluskie.
