Sexy by Nature
From the bedroom to the runway to the beach,
wavy hair is a whirlwind of effortless sexiness.
S
ummer beauty succumbs to the laws of nature, the rawness of mornings and to effortless splendor. This season, fashion embraces natural beauty with a nearly naked make-up and has broadened the margins of flawlessness with sexy, “undone” hair. Elusive waves and polished grunginess is one of this summer’s sexiest hairstyles.

From New York to Milan, designers praised natural perfection on their runways this season. For Diane Von Furstenberg, the hair seemed like an essential accessory in her collection. The slight waves framing the model’s faces with minimal make-up created an oasis of beauty inspired by the natural allure the models exuded while off-duty. Designers like Versace, edgy Alexander Wang and the minimalist Calvin Klein shared DVF’s vision. Mr. Wang’s models sported 90’s, raw, slightly rougher beach hair, while Versace created simple, air-dried waves, texturized for a subtle bounce and volume on the catwalk.

Effortless hair in fact requires minimal products and effort.
New York based hairstylist Domingo Quintero shares his personalized tips to look like you were born by the sea.

Step 1

UNSILKIEFY

Maximize using one of Mr. Quintero’s favorite volumizers, Serge Normant Meta Lush. “Spray all over to give the hair more texture as opposed to spraying directly at the root.”

Step 2

SALTIFY

Add to the beach vibe. Try Bumble & Bumble sea salt spray followed by a texturizer. “If you need a little more texture to your hair, I love Oribe: Dry texturizing Spray.” Skip the volumizer and go straight for the sea salt if you want the true beach wave look. “An easy product for any hair is to start with a good sea salt spray on wet hair, rough dry, encouraging any kind of texture you may have to come out in the hair.” When dry, take a one-inch iron or smaller like Harry Josh Pro Tools for a tighter wave, and start randomly giving a natural looking wave. “I always recommend leaving the ends straighter to give a more natural touch..

Step 3

REFINE

For the piecey look and shine, Serge Normant Meta Sheer Dry Oil Finishing Spray and Shu Uemura Essence Absolue oil work best for Mr. Quintero. “After a day with your beachy waves, use the texture that is already in the hair to your advantage and do a messy bun or slick back your hair and keep a great textured ponytail for easy evening or day to night looks.”
