Lida Fox
Meet Lida Fox – model, ballet dancer, and Saint Laurent
favorite - who has
hypnotized the industry with her sweet moves.
FOX TALES
Flexible and charming, Lida Fox has managed to enchant her way as a hot emerging face in 2014. The South Carolina born dancer made waves in 2013 as she spun pirouettes in Hedi Slimane’s directorial debut for Saint Laurent. Since then, Ms. Fox has been the one to watch, most recently featured in Tom Ford’s Fall/Winter 2014 campaign. On an editorial roll, being limber and physical has allowed Ms. Fox to create beautiful photos. Though, she does admit that her model figure comes quite naturally. “I was blessed with a strong metabolism. I have a gym in my building now, but I’ve only been once!” she laughs.

In this Model Profile for Playing Fashion, Ms. Fox shares her ambitions, confesses to her deviant sweet tooth, and literally bends backwards for the perfect shot.
GROWING UP
I wanted to be a professional ballet dancer. That world is incredibly competitive and unless you are naturally built in having a perfect turnout or perfect arches in your feet, it’s very difficult to have a top of the line career.
IT WOULD BE IMPOSSIBLE
to dance and model full-time. If I were dancing full-time I would have to be in the studio dedicating myself to it everyday, for hours. Now I just go when I have time because I love to do it. It’s good when you’re modeling too!
I MY MOM GREATLY INFLUENCES ME
We lived in a rural area and she created her own dance studio so I can have a strong dance education. My mom never forced me to dance and would tell me it’s my choice. She still runs the studio actually; I was very lucky to have that.
I WAS 19 WHEN HEDI SLIMANE SHOT ME DANCING IN
this big warehouse in the Bronx for the Saint Laurent campaign video. It was my first time working directly with him. He is so laid back and easy to get along with, but very focused and dedicated: he does everything, he’s great.
COLLEGE IS SOMETHING I DEFINITELY WANT TO DO
I took a lot of prep courses in high school that I worked very hard on, so I need to do something! I like that I have this time with modeling to figure things out because I always thought I’d go into journalism or archaeology, but recently I’ve been into astronomy and the stars.
MY DOWNFALL IS SWEETS
You’d think that I diet from dancing and now modeling, but I don’t. Sometimes I just have dessert instead of a proper lunch. OddFellows in Williamsburg is an amazing ice cream place with crazy flavors that I love. They have a smores flavor – it’s so good!
DON’T HAVE FACEBOOK, TWITTER, INSTAGRAM
any of it! I don’t have anything against it; I just haven’t bothered to do it. In some ways it would make my life easier, to keep track of other people, but I don’t feel like I’m missing out on anything. (since the interview, Lida has made an Instagram account @lidafoxy)
